SS Murata
History
Founded in 1966, Murata Football Club has a rich and triumphant history. After a modest start, finishing ninth in its first championship, the club persevered for over three decades until winning its first significant title: the Titano Cup in 1997. However, the club's golden years were yet to come.
In 2006, Murata took a giant leap by winning the San Marino National Championship. This victory coincided with a historic decision by FIFA to include the Sammarinese champions in the preliminary phase of the UEFA Champions League. Thus,Murata became the first team from San Marino to play a UEFA Champions League match.
Aldair, idol of Flamengo and Roma, who played in the 1998 World Cup for Brazil, cutting a cake in celebration of Murata's participation, the club he played for in San Marino, in the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League.
On July 17, 2007, Murata faced Tampere United, the Finnish champions, on their home turf. Although Roberto Teodorani opened the scoring for the home team, Tampere managed to recover in the second half and secure a 2-1 victory. In the away game the following week, Tampere triumphed again with a 2-0 win. Despite the club's elimination from the competition, Murata's achievement will forever be a source of pride for its supporters.
